Teaching with Technology Portfolio
This is the hub page for my Teaching with Technology portfolio.
The Pennsylvania State University's College of the Liberal Arts offers a Teaching with Technology Certificate for instructors who demonstrate the creative and productive use of technology in the classroom. The certificate is awarded on the basis of a Web portfolio consisting of three main parts: (1) a teaching philosophy statement, (2) a collection of examples of technology used in teaching, and (3) reflections that evaluate the success of these examples in improving course outcomes.
I decided to pursue the certificate in the Spring 2026 semester. By that point, I had been teaching for almost six full years. Most of that teaching occurred during my time as a graduate student in English at Penn State. I had obviously learned quite a lot about teaching in general and about myself as a teacher over that time, so I saw the certificate as a great opportunity to document my pedagogical development and concretize some of the insights I gained over the years.
Additionally, the intersection of technology and culture is a general research interest (and curiosity point) of mine. My teacher training included very little explicit reflection on the use of technology, even though teaching (like so many other things) is inextricably imbricated with technology. Therefore, the portfolio also gave me the chance to think a bit more substantially and systematically about how technology impacts my classroom.
Here is a Table of Links for the pages that compose my portfolio on this site. You should start with my philosophy statement and reflections on technology. You can then peruse the examples as you see fit!
